MY FINAL CALL: Clipper To Bring Some Snow for Wed. into Wed. Night. South & East of PHL Win On This One !

My Final Call: 12/5/07 Clipper Event.

For: The Delaware Valley and Northern M/A Regions.

Issued: Tuesday 12/4 @ 5:00 PM

Discussion:

A Clipper system now in the Midwest early this evening, will dive Southeastward into WV and Southern VA later Tonight into Wednesday AM. Along and to the North of this Storm's track, a swath of light snow will be associated with this Clipper. I'm looking for a 100 to 150 miles wide band of snow to sweep across MD, Northern/Central VA, Southern PA, Southern/Central NJ, and all of DE. A general 1" to 3" of snow will fall in this band, for areas East of the Apps. The more favorable Upslope regions, of WV and into Western MD, will see 3" to 6" amounts as this Clipper crosses tonight into Wednesday morning.

Occ. Light Snow and Flurries, will move into the BWI/DCA regions, during the mid morning hours, then spread east into PHL/ILG, DOV, and ACY, during the late morning and Early Afternoon hours. A period of more steady snow will develop later in the day, and continue into the Evening Hours, from DCA/BWI East into Southern NJ and DE. This is where so enhancement of the snow will take place, as the Clipper exits off the VA coast, and some additional moisture is induced with light N to NE winds. The best chance for this will be across SE NJ into Central and Southern DE, during Wednesday Evening.

In addition the persistent NW flow of cold air over the past couple of days, has brought in plenty of low and mid level moisture, from the LES snows and Streamers from the Great lakes. This added moisture to the atmosphere, will help this Clipper from Fizzling out east of the Apps. Another words, this Clipper is not running into a bone dry atmosphere. Nor is there Cold High Pressure to the North pumping down Drier air, ahead of this system. Down sloping, always weakens Clippers, East of the Apps, but in this case I think it hold together fairly well, considering a Clipper's normal reputation of fizzling out east of the mountains.

A weak H5 shortwave, moving into the O/V, could also aid in energizing the system when it reaches the coast, so I'm banking on some influence from this feature. All snow should end and exit the coast towards Midnight, and our storm quickly move east and out to sea.

Here's My Call for the Delaware Valley and Northern M/A States.

A Coating to Near 1" can be expected: in PHL /Locations North and Northeast of PHL.

Well, we're not going to get much of anything tomorrow from this clipper, but the streamer that cut through northern Middlesex County this morning was a lot of fun!

I didn't have my camera with me (of course not), but you should have seen that squall line move southeast. Definitely "Flickr" worthy.
