A COLD WEEK ON TAP ! Snow Showers and Flurries for Tonight into Tuesday AM. Possible period of Snow with light Accumulations for SJ and DE Tonight.

Discussion:
Monday: 11/17/08

A cold week on tap, as advertised over the past week or so. Today is the beginning of a stretch of cold weather with temperatures averaging: below to much below normal. Today will be quite chilly with temps in the Mid to Upper 40's. As we progress into the week, temps will struggle to get past 40 for Highs, and lows will be in the mid to upper 20's Tuesday through Friday.

A huge U/L trough is now moving into the area ,and will dominate much of the east during this week. As this trough enters the region, some upper level energy will pass just to our south, for tonight into Tuesday. An area of precipitation now over the Ohio Valley with a disturbance, will slide east into the Northern VA, MD, and then into parts of NJ (Southern) and DE, tonight and tomorrow AM.

A mix of wet snow and rain is likely for DCA and BWI this evening as this disturbance move in. Temps will be marginal at the onset, but as colder air is filtered in this precip will change to snow showers and a period of snow later this evening into the early morning hours of Tuesday. The best chance for this period of snow will be over Northern VA, Central and Eastern MD, and then east into Southern NJ and DE, later tonight. Scattered snow showers and flurries can be expected for SE PA and Central NJ, with only a few flurries from NE PA into Northern NJ and the NYC areas.

I'm thinking some areas could see and coating to perhaps 1" in a few spots, from NE VA, Central and NE MD, into Northern and Central DE, and parts of Southern NJ. This precip. could start as a mix during this evening, but should change over to a period of light snow after midnight into early Tuesday AM.

A cold and windy day with some scattered flurries can be expected through out the region on Tuesday, as Strong CAA, and some LES activity streams in. Temps with be in the Upper 30's to low 40's for highs. Cold and breezy conditions with P.Cloudy skies and lows in the mid to upper 20's can be expected at night.

Wednesday: P.Cloudy and Cold with Highs in the Upper 30's. Lows will be in the middle 20's. As a weak Clipper approaches from the NW, some Cloudiness will over spreads the region along with some Flurries and scattered snow showers for late Wednesday night into Thursday.

The Best chance for this activity for Wednesday night and Thursday, will set up from PHL and points north into NE PA, Northern NJ, and the NYC areas. This system will be moisture starved and I expect only some very light accumulations in the mountains of NE PA into Northern NJ.

Temperatures will remain cold with blustery conditions for both Thursday and Friday with Highs in the Upper 30's to lower 40's. overnight lows will be in the 20's.

All of the NYC mets are calling for snow showers between tomorrow night and Wednesday.

If anything happens, I'll send my obs along!

Incidentally, I just may have to stop logging onto Eastern as "invisble" and hop onto the "Captain" bandwagon...all of your write-ups have been spot on.

Well done, Cuzz!!

Hi Dee,
Thanks ! I did get a couple of rain/snow showers last night, between 10:00 PM and Midnight. Didn't amount to anything, but I can put a Trace amount in the books. December is looking good for cold and better chances for real snow. Climatology always rules, but it's nice to have a taste of cold and winter here in the middle of November. Average temps this week will be close to the normal values of January. Brrrr
