My Final Call: Snow Event Saturday Night into Sunday. Windy and Very Cold Sunday into Monday.

My Final Call
8:00 AM
Saturday

Once again a tricky forecast with a minor snow event for tonight into Sunday AM. An Alberta Clipper will pass by to our north tonight and Sunday with a strong trough and very cold air. At the same time a coastal storm will begin to develop just of the M/A coast later today and this evening. Both of these systems will remain separate in our area, but will likely come together further north and off the New England coast on Sunday.

Some moisture from the coastal storm just offshore, will be induced to our area tonight, but will be rather limited. H5 Vort energy with the trough will help enhance this activity later this evening into Sunday morning, creating some extra lift. Some periods of mixed rain and snow changing to snow, will develop this evening over NE MD, Southern NJ, and DE, then spread North and northeastward into the entire Delaware Valley tonight.

Some snow showers and flurries will also be moving in from the west, associated with the trough and Clipper system to our NW. With this being said, I expect periods of snow and snow showers from this evening into Sunday morning. The entire event will be minor, and my thinking is a general Coating to 1" of snow with a few areas getting 1" to 2" of snow in heavier snow showers activity later tonight into Sunday morning.

Most areas west and Southwest of PHL (including PHL) will see a Coating to 1".

From Southern and Central DE, into SE NJ, these areas could see a Coating, but some rain could be mixed in at the start of this event this evening. Temps will be 30 to 35 and marginal surface temps will be an issue for accumulating snow.

So overall, no real changes to my preliminary thoughts from Wednesday's post.
A few spots could see between 1"-2" in the areas I've outlined, but overall a Coating to 1" amounts will be most common, for Northern DE, SE PA, Interior Southern NJ, and all of Central NJ.

On Sunday winds will increase as CAA takes over with scattered flurries in the afternoon. Temps will remain in the mid 30's as NW winds increase to 15 to 30 MPH and gusts to near 40. So it will feel very cold and wind chills drop into the teens later in the day and Sunday night.

Take Care,
Ruggie

Obs from Oaklyn:

5:30 - That lovely combo platter of "snitz"; light rain and flurries.

6:07 - Very light, wet snow. And, it's starting to stick on cold surfaces (like, the top of my Scion).

More later!

More obs from Oaklyn, cuz!

8:00 PM - more light, wet snow, about a 1/4" on the cars and grassy surfaces, and it's still coming down!

Looks pretty, though...

9:30 -it's all over, just some "sneet" falling.

Just checked the Mount Holly radar, and it looks like all I'll have for the rest of the night is light flurries!

Have a great night!
