My Call: Thursday's Clipper Express brings Bitter Cold, But Not Much Snow !

7:30 AM Thursday 1/15/09
Moderate Snow Falling now as the arctic front is moving through, the Clipper is starting to intensify off the coast with enhanced snows developing, near parts of NJ and the NYC areas:
A Coating with 0.2" on the ground.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
My Call: For The Delaware Valley/The Lehigh Valley & NYC.
Issued: 1/14/09
For Thursday AM Clipper event

I have no big changes from my original thoughts with this Clipper, for later Tonight into Thursday morning.

A quick moving, moisture starved clipper, will move to the NJ coast on Thursday, then intensify as it heads Northeast and offshore. A very strong Arctic front will cross the area, bringing the Coldest air mass of this Winter season.

Some Light snow and snow showers will move into the Delaware Valley between 3:00 Am and 8:00 AM Thursday. This activity will continue through the morning hours. Skies will become P.Cloudy in the afternoon as winds increase and temps hold in the mid 20's.

Thursday Night and Friday:Bitter Cold and Breezy with lows of 3 to 8 Degree in the suburbs and near 10 in PHL. High will struggle to reach the mid and upper teens on Friday, with Partly Sunny Skies. Brrrr

For The Lehigh Valley/Northern NJ, and The NYC areas.
A touch of snow with some light Accumulations of 1" to 3" can be expected

The Pocono's and NW NJ and Eastern Long Island,
3" to 4" . Some Isolated amounts of 5" possible

For the Northern Suburbs of PHL, into Central NJ:
A Coating to near 1"

For PHL/ Northern DE, and Southern NJ:
A light Coating of snow in some spots, but it's mainly closer to PHL, where a Coating to perhaps 1/2" is most likely. Too the south and east of PHL, look for a few flurries and snow showers, later tonight into Thursday morning. A coating in some areas is possible.

All areas can expect Windy, and Bitter cold weather to follow, for Thursday afternoon into Saturday. Highs will be in the Upper teens to mid 20's and Lows in the single digets to mid teens, through the period.

I'll have more on Sunday's potential, sometime tomorrow.

SNOWFALL MAP: For Thursday 01/15/2009

----------------------------------------------
From my original/previous post . No changes.

This time the cold air will be here and in place, but the main swath of snow always falls to the north of the center, with most clipper systems. Yes an Arctic front associated with Thursday's Clipper, moves through with a period of light snow or flurries on the south side of the system, but I see nothing more than a light accumulation at best for both Tuesday and Thursday's events. Both Systems will be rather weak and moisture starved as they cross the mountains. This will leave only a threat for some flurries, snow showers, and possibly a period of light snow, that could leave a Coating to 1" for areas South of PHL. Further north into the Lehigh Valley, and into the NYC area, 1" to 3" can't be ruled out, especially on Thursday.

Had a period of Light to Moderate snow with the arctic front, between 7:30 and 8:45 AM this morning.

Picked up .2" Nice Coating.

Big enhancement on radar over Central NJ into the NYC areas as the coastal is developing just offshore.

There's no magic for Sunday either.
Another Clipper and just offshore coastal low, sound familar ???

Wash, Rinse, Repeat !

I'll have more on this tonight or tomorrow, but no big snowstorm for Sunday, just some snow showers or light snow.

Very Frustrating as NYC into New England have a shot with the nothern Clipper. Even the Carolinas and Eastern VA could get several inches of snow from the coastal storm. This leaves us sandwiched between 2 systems and it's only peanut butter and Jelly for us. No Lunchmeat in this sandwich. Lol

No Phasing AGAIN.

Jenny,
Big changes, check out my new write-up !

Coastal storm is looking much better for Sunday into early Monday.

This could be a 4" to 8" snowstorm for South Jersey. All models and information I'm looking at are onboard for a good hit.

Stay Tuned over the weekend. I'll be updating and giving my forecast and thoughts on this big threat.

Time to put that wash, rinse, repeat cycle, in the Dyer. Lol
