Weekend Outlook: A Few Showers to start, then clearing out & turning Cooler into next week.

10/09/09
Friday PM

Overall a pretty nice weekend is on tap for the Delaware Valley Region. A rather strong cold front will be moving through later tonight into Saturday morning. Ahead of and along this front some showers are likely, later tonight into early Saturday morning. A few areas could see a thunderstorm as this front crosses late tonight.

Then during Saturday the cooler air follows behind this front, as clearing skies can be expected during the late morning and afternoon hours. So a few morning showers then becoming P.Sunny and breezy during the afternoon, Highs in the Upper 60's.

Partly Sunny, Breezy and seasonably cool weather for Sunday as temps remain in the mid 60's and lows dip into the low to mid 40's.

Now, Let's get into next week and my soon to be bad call from last week. I advertised the likely hood of cold weather and the first frost and freeze coming during the week of October 10th-15th. Well, you all can scratch that chance, it's not happening. I made a big mistake and put more trust than normal into a set of models supporting a cold shot during this timeframe. I bit and took the bait on the hook, ouch that hurt.

This is a time of the year when models have some big problems in the 7 to 15 day period, and the sad part is I know this as a forecaster, but I went along with the consistantly advertised cold pattern that the models were putting out for a few days in a row. Well over the last few days the trend went from Cold to Cool and even just mild for much of next week.

Monday Oct 12th through Friday October 16th
Seasonably Cool and Pleasant Conditions ! Nice Fall Weather.

So it now looks like much of the upcoming week will be slightly Cooler than normal, but nothing real cold. A pleasant week of Fall weather with Partly Sunny skies each day. Highs will mainly be in the low to mid 60's, with maybe Wednesday being the coolest day and only reaching the upper 50's.

At night Partly Cloudy and Fair skies can be expected, as low tempertures will be quite Chilly. The Upper 30's are likely in the suburbs for Tuesday & Wednesday, but overall mainly in the low to mid 40's for the entire week. I would not rule out the chance for some scattered frost in the suburbs during the middle of the week, so keep that in mind ! Philly will see lows of 45 to 50 for much of the week, in the urban heat Island.

Have a nice weekend and enjoy next weeks great Fall Weather !
