Heavy Rains followed by Snow/Sleet and Cold Friday into Saturday

SNOWFALL MAP: DELAWARE VALLEY & NEARBY AREAS

MY CALL:
ISSUED THURSDAY 3/15/07
TIME:
7:00 PM
FORECAST:
MARCH 16th/17th SNOW & SLEET ACCUMULATIONS
DISCUSSION:

A strong cold front will press south and eastward into the Delaware Valley Region tonight into Friday bringing heavy rains to the region tonight. As colder air moves in the rain will change to snow from Harrisburg to Allentown as we approach Friday morning. This rain/Snow line will slowly press southeastward towards the PHL area during the afternoon hours on Friday.

Low Pressure will develop along and just ahead of this front, near the VA/NC coast tomorrow then move NNE to off the NJ coast during Friday night. This will allow precip. to continue heavy at times Later Friday and Friday night. This storm will stay close to the coast, allowing the rain/snow line to stall for a time near the PHL area later Friday and Friday Evening. As the low moves near and to the north of the area will be when all areas changeover to snow during Friday night, South and East of PHL, into Southern NJ. At this time it appears areas SE of PHL will only receive around 1" of Snow/Sleet Friday night into early Saturday morning. Near the PHL area around 1" to 3" are possible. Further North and West 3" to 6" are possible towards Reading and Allentown. Northwestern NJ into NE PA could be looking at 6" to 10" amounts with snow heavy at times Friday night into early Saturday.

This storm will produce Heavy Snow amounts of near 10" to 16" in portions of interior New England Friday Night into Saturday. At this time I'm going with 3" to 6" amount in NYC and 4" to 8" amounts for Boston. North and west of these areas is where 8" to 16" amounts are possible.

Take Care,
Ruggie
