THE WEEK AHEAD: Mixed Precip: Snow & Rain Tuesday/Tuesday Evening. Colder and Mainly Dry Weather For Mid & Late Week.

Discussion:
5:30 PM Monday
1/21/08

We had yet another Very Cold and blustery day on Monday, as temperatures remained in the mid 20's over most locations. Another Cold night is on tap as Strong High Pressure now over the region, moves off the Mid Atlantic Coast tonight. A weak area of Low pressure and it's associated strong cold front, now in the Midwest, will move eastward tonight.

WAA (Warm Air Advection) ahead of this system will work it's way into the Delaware Valley tomorrow. This will setup an overrunning situation, and allow for some snow to develop later tomorrow morning. Temperatures aloft will be cold enough to support snow initially, but during the afternoon, the lower and mid levels of the atmosphere should warm up just enough to cause snow to mix with, and or change to rain/Sleet, from PHL, South and East, into SJ and DE. Many area North and West of PHL will mainly be Light snow with some rain/Sleet mixed in, later in the day.

At this time I'm expecting light snow/Sleet accumulations of around A Coating to 1" across much of the Delaware Valley Area. The exception will be Central/Southern DE, and Extreme Southern NJ, South of Millville, were Little or No Accumulation can be expected. Temperatures during this event will be in the mid to Upper 30's. This will also prevent any Accumulations to exceed 1". For Areas Further North and West, in the Lehigh Valley, and The Reading Area, Some of these locations could see 1" to 2" at Higher elevations.

This Cold front will move through during the Evening hours, and Precipitation will end as Wet Snow, or mixed precip, by the mid/late evening hours. Colder and Breezy conditions will follow for Later Tuesday Night into Wednesday.

A Short wave will move through Wednesday Night and Thursday, bringing the chance of some Flurries and Snow showers. This will also reinforce the cold air for later in the week. Temperatures from Wednesday through Friday will be quite Chilly. Highs will be in the low to mid 30's and Lows in the Teens and Low 20's through the period.

My Forecast:
SE PA, Southern NJ and DE.

Tonight:
Fair Skies this Evening, then becoming P.Cloudy overnight. Continued Cold with Lows in the 15 to 20.

Updated Forecast:
7:00 AM Tuesday 1-22-08

Tuesday:
Becoming Cloudy in the morning, with light snow developing during the early afternoon . Wet snow changing to mixed precip. during the afternoon. A general Coating possible. Highs in the Mid to Upper 30's.

Tuesday Night:
Cloudy with Wet Snow and Mixed precip during the evening, then M.Cloudy and Breezy Overnight. Lows in the mid to Upper 20's. Total Accumulations A Coating to 1".

Wednesday:
M.Sunny Breezy and Cold. Highs in the mid 30s.

Wednesday Night:
Becoming M.Cloudy with Flurries possible Later at Night. Colder with lows 15 to 20.

Thursday:
M.Cloudy with some Flurries and Snow showers during the morning. P.Sunny during the afternoon. Cold and Breezy with Highs 30 to 35. Clear and Cold at Night with Lows in the Mid to Upper Teens.

Friday:
Sunny and Continued Cold. Highs near 30.

Take Care,
Ruggie

So, here are my very unoffcial obs from the construction yard at "MetroPark"!

7 AM: Cold.
9 AM: Chilly.
11 AM: Cloudy, and waiting for the snow, or any other winter precip!
12 PM: Nothing.
1 PM: Ooh, look at that! Five snowflakes, and...is that the sun that I see coming out?
1:30 PM: Wow, according to the radar, it looks like it'll all be up here in a few!
2:00 PM: Damn...it's all moving south...perhaps??
2:45 PM: Game over, up here in the Central NJ area for now!

Dee,
These last few Coating to 1" systems have killed me. I'm in a terrible slump and refuse to forecast anymore events under 2" From here on out if I see any possible minor events, I'll say a light accumultion POSSIBLE in A FEW LOCATIONS. This pattern is a waste of cold air and heart of winter arm pit. No different than blowtorch 60 degree weather for 6 weeks, like last winter. We MIGHT get some flurries or snowshowers on Thursday.
