This Statement from the NWS in Mt.Holly NJ
THE COMBINED EFFECTS OF THE TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY COULD RESULT IN HEAT INDEX VALUES MORE LIKE THE DEAD OF SUMMER...BETWEEN 100 AND 105 DEGREES. AS THE TEMPERATURES REACH INTO THE LOW AND MID 90S...THE HUMIDITY WILL BE ON THE INCREASE AS SOUTHWEST WINDS TAP SOME OF THE MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS OF IKE.
THIS ONE DAY HEAT SPELL SHOULD BE TREATED JUST AS SERIOUS AS WHAT OCCURS DURING THE HOTTEST PART OF THE SUMMER. WE HAVE HAD TEMPERATURES THIS MONTH IN THE LOWER 90S...BUT THE HUMIDITY IS GOING TO ADD TO THE OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS TODAY.
THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR- CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OFTHE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
RELIEF CAN ALSO BE FOUND AT LAKES AND AT THE SHORE BUT REMEMBERMANY SWIMMING AREAS...INCLUDING THE BEACHES ARE UNGUARDED.
THE NORMAL HIGH AT PHILADELPHIA IS 77 AND THE RECORD HIGH 92 SETIN 1995.
WILMINGTON'S NORMAL IS 78 AND RECORD HIGH 92 SET IN 1915.
TRENTON'S NORMAL IS 76 AND THE RECORD HIGH 91 SET IN 1915.
ATLANTIC CITY'S NORMAL IS 77 AND RECORD HIGH 92 SET IN 1981...AND
GEORGETOWN'S NORMAL IS 80 AND RECORD HIGH 93 SET IN 1962.
